Gunsmoke and Petticoats is a group of dedicated people from all walks of life, who are interested in keeping the old west alive. We perform entertaining shows depicting historical events of how life really was in the old west. From townsfolk celebrating a holiday, to a bank getting robbed, a young couple getting married, an outlaw getting gunned down, a sheriff arguing with his deputy on who is better, a town defending itself against a band of outlaws in a huge gunfight, with guns a blazin’ and bodies fallin’ and women screaming, babies crying, an old lady beatin’ up on men ... sorry, you get the picture. We love what we do!
With all that being said, we are very serious about authenticity, character portrayal, dialogue and safety. We pride ourselves in our safety record. We have over 400 years of combined old west reenacting without a gun fire related incident. We have very strict safety guidelines to keep not only us safe, but the spectators also. We start every show with a gun safety talk for all spectators, aimed mainly at the children watching, and in that talk we demonstrate how dangerous a gun can be. We are professionals and very serious about safety.
Don’t worry about where you will put us to perform at your event, we have our own town! All we need is an area about 80’ wide by 50’ deep. When we are all set-up, we have a general store, jail, saloon, a bank and a hotel with doctor’s office and a whole lot of props. Our safety rope is the line that divides the old west from today.
If this sounds like something you would be interested in having at your next event, or if you are interested in the old west and would like to find out more about us and joining, don’t hesitate to contact us. Don’t miss out, call today!
Gunsmoke and Petticoats is a proud member of Reenactment Guild of America, RGA. RGA is an international organization consisting of many reenactors, such as ourselves, preserving the true history of the old west. Several times throughout the year competitions are held for groups to compete for awards and prizes. These competitions consist of many skits performed by many groups and are judged in 5 categories of authenticity. After tabulation of points by the judges, the winning group is announced, as well as several special awards. Over the years our group and members have won many prizes and awards. (See our “Group History” page) At these gatherings we have made many good friends. We have exchanged ideas and skits, received training or have trained others in all sorts of ways to do stunts or acting techniques and costuming.
